Does the service light on the 850 T-5 series take a while to go out ? Mine can take 5 mins before it will go out then other times it goes out instantly

It's supposed to take 2 minutes. On a 97 or 98, it can't be reset except by a special tool or the dealer scan tool.
I took my bulb out when I changed the dash bulbs and smashed it. Stupid annoying piece of junk

I believe it is a standard feature on all volvo's to have the service light come on after so many miles. There is a posting which refers to reseting the service light so it will not come on anymore. maybe you should look for that posting, good luck.
I'll take a look it does go out eventually tomorrow I will time how long it takes to go out so if its within the alloted time then thats ok and I will look up how to reset it once and for all

The way I do that is to remove the lamp, throw it down the street, and then go stomp on it until it is in pieces to make sure it can never come back.reset it once and for all

I think it's any of the OBD II Volvos that need the special dealer reset. My 96 needed it. I just swing by the dealer and have them reset it for free. Problem solved for 5000 more miles.
