A chunk of ice has busted out my sunroof glass on my s80 and Igot one at a junkyard for 150. Does anyone know how hard it is to change out just the glass.
All i see to do is to pull off the trim to expose the bolts and then maybe it would just come off easily but I doubt it.
Hopefully someone can help!
Thanks,
Tony

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
However, for the purists, it is fairly easy:

Perhaps you missed it on the news, ice has waged war on S80 sunroofs, the same thing happened to mine.
Yes, it is that easy. I removed it (just last night as a matter of fact) by pulling down those accordian flaps and exposing the four bolts. Unscrew, remove, replace.

If its on the internet, it must be true!

TOOK OUT the torx screws cleaned out all the glass, retracted the sunroof and i must have missed some because I could hear the glass crushing as it went back. i went forward immediatly and it jammed. worked it back and forth and got it to close and it won't even vent all the way up.
So what i think is that i may have to drop headliner (that will take forever) and hopefully the whole sunroof assembley only bolts up to the roof and can be removed as a unit.
Does anyone know where i can find headliner and sunroof assembly removal?
Is this the way i should go about it?
Thanks in advance.

It's always the simple jobs that go wrong.
I assume you can't get the glass up far enough to just remove that and start again.
Here is a foretaste of what lies in front of you:

If you decide to go ahead and need the instructions for the parts marked in green let me know.
Bill.

Wow, are you sure you can't get the glass back out again and use a long vacuum attachment or something?
When I bought my car (used), my sunroof and sunshade were "crunching" and sticking while retracting (sunroof and sunshade will retract together). I found out it was the guides that run the track on the sunshade were damaged. I ordered replacements and found that Volvo had a replacement guide that was much improved over the original. Problem solved!
Good luck on that job!

Is there a way to tighten the bolts in the sunroof without removing the headliner? Mine rattles when opened and I can move it up and down. the good news is now that it has come loose it does not leak in the car wash.
Thanks.

Sounds like your metal cross-over supports are loose. At the front and rear of the glass are two pieces of metal that run from side to side across the glass, sounds like the glue is starting to fail.....remove and re glue. As for the screws...they are under/behind the accordion rubberRafDaddy 48 wrote:Is there a way to tighten the bolts in the sunroof without removing the headliner? Thanks. Sounds like I will need to remove the headliner. I was hoping I might get lucky.
Dont have to touch the headliner. You can do it from the driver/passenger seat...everything is already exposed, just have to pull down/up the rubber accordion thing for the bolts.RafDaddy 48 wrote:Thanks. Sounds like I will need to remove the headliner. I was hoping I might get lucky.
We joined on the same day...weird
