98 S70 Antenna Removal

Post by sgowda2011 »

Hi, it seems that my antenna is broken when i power on my radio i hear a sound that my antenna is going up but it does not, the same happens when i turn it off. I am not sure if its completely broken or just the mast that seems to not work. Are there any steps i can follow to remove the antenna and replace it with a new one or perhaps just the mast. Thanks

Most likely just the mast - I stripped mine out during the winter because I was too lazy to clear the snow off the back of my car. Then I bent it in a car wash.

There's a nut at the top of the boot where it pops out of the trunk - loosen that, pull out the old mast. Take note of the direction the toothy strip faces. Now feed in the strip for the new one while you have someone else turn off the power for the radio to run the motor, and hopefully it will catch in a few tries and suck it right in.

Very easy fix, I ordered my replacement mast from FCP Groton.

1. open the trunk and use a fat screw driver to take off some of the liner clips on the driver side of the trunk. with this peeled back you can see the whole antenna assembly.
2. with the antenna pushed down take a crescent wrench to the out side portion of the antenna and loosen it up so that it can some down through the bottom.
3. there should be one or two bolts holding in the power antenna assembly and it should have a wire relay attached to it. remove those and remove the antenna assembly.

From here u can replace the whole thing or just buy a new mast.

If the motor still runs OK, you don't need to take off the trunk thing or get at the motor.

Just remove this nut and pull the old mast out, then feed in the new one

The motor runs okay i guess, but its the mast thats the problem it wont come out and therefore i cant pull it out and replace it with another one. If i open up the trunk will i be able to access the old mast, or is there another way to get at the old mast.

Ohhh, gotcha.

Get to the access panel like peacock said, and push the mast up slightly, then you can pull it straight out.
