2 Strange sounds i can figure out. 2002 v70

i have a 2002 V70 wagon and i love the car but it makes 2 sounds i cant figure out for the life of me.

1. whenever there is a decent amount of rain, and my car is out in the rain, either driving in it or parked outside. so the car has to be actively getting rained on, when i hit the freeway and do about 70 mph for at least 2 miles, as i slow down to 45 mph or slower, there is a very loud almost, grinding sound that i cant figure out where on the car its coming from, but as i slow down, so does the sound, and when i stop, so does the sound. there is no change in performace or anything like that.

2. during the warmer months as i drive there is a sound that sounds like leaking air from the brake pedal area, when i press the brake the sound stops, and when i let go it slowly comes back. but during winter, the sound never happens.

any help would be great.

for noise #2, that's a vacuum leak hiss from the brake booster. A common failure in '01-'02 MY.

Get it fixed, as the problem will get worst and you might lose the power brake assist when you need it the most.

+1 for noise #2. probably Vaccuum leak in the brake booster. been there, done that wearing the t-shirt...
for noise #1 => plastic wheel well cover interaction with the water out of the tires....(? going on a limb here...)

Hello, Is your car FWD or AWD? How many miles does it have? Blind suggestions for noise #1; Give the exhaust a detailed inspection. Check everything, pipe, joints and hangers. Also inspect each motor mount. Something's moving. Something in the engine bay? Kira

It's called rain squeal, very rare on an XC but common on an R.
The exhaust is expanding when the heat hits the cold water and it's rubbing against the driveshaft
If you put the car on a lift you should be able to see the score marks on the propshaft.
Volvo has a fix for it, see your dealer
