850 volvo ECM questions
Recently i wrote about an 850 with what seemed in the end to be a MAP sensor issue (rough idle, running too rich, occasional stalling), so i took the dar to be looked at and the problem was diagnosed as an ECM issue which i was quoted 180 bucks to fix. I am very mechanically savy and have done similar work on non volvos, so i ask Can i do this job for cheaper with out to much difficulty. Where can the sensor be found, and does it need any specail programming etc...any help is greatly appriciated.

What ECM issue? Replacement? $180 sounds cheap for a dealer replacement. Some people find used ones, but I'd expect that to be more than $180 too.

The exact words used by the tech were "ECM sensor" ( i dont know if that differes from the actual ECM). hope that helps..anyone even replace one?

ECM most often refers to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit), which costs over $1000. Come to think of it though, he could be referring to the engine coolant temp sensor. The symptoms do match. Get the tech to point out the part and/or give you a part number, so we can verify though.
