2005 XC70 Headlights, PCV, window limiter

Post by wedcarter »

Good evening,

I'm a long time 200 owner (the gold lowered 245GLT that was in the RWD IPD catalogue was mine for a while) but I am a new and inexperienced owner of a P2 series platform - 2005 XC70 with 130,000 miles. I love it and have gotten to know most if it's ways but I have a few issues that I can't seem to sort.

1) The drivers side window "auto-up" feature will re-open it immediately after hitting the full close position. If I hold my finger on the switch (in the up position) it will close fine. The passenger side is fine - pull up on the switch and let her go - she'll close right up. The "auto-down" is fine on both of them. A key locking/unlocking procedure as well as a battery disconnect procedure have been suggested in this forum - to "reset" software I assume. I've tried these and they do not work. Do the entire switch modules fail or are there force limiters that I can replace?

2) I lost my high beams. Again, suggestions in the forum always surface about the DRL position versus actually having the headlights "on". Mine are on. They failed instantly one day, both of them. The fuses are fine although the multi-function stalk feels odd. You can pull it toward you into the detent where it clicks and your high beams are engaged but there's no click sound and the stalk returns to normal. Could something mechanical have failed in the stalk?

3) I changed my plugs and noticed a small amount of oil in some of the casting cavities toward the back of the head. It looks like the source is the rectangular section of a hose (I assume it's PCV related) that runs out under the plug/coil pack cover and down through the intake mold runners. It's broken. I've attached a couple of photos to help clarify which one it is. One photo is from an IPD catalogue and shows an IPD PCV replacement kit. The hose in my car that is broken is the left most in the image under the intake manifold gasket. In the second photo (although this is an image from an 850 engine bay), the hose is the one pointed at by the upper caption.

This is a long winded multi-item post so please forgive the shotgun approach and answer/suggest just part of it if you can.

Thanks in advance.
