2004 S60 Old School Maintenance Schedule

Post by jsa1974 »

First Post!
I paid off my 04 S60 about 5 months ago and my CPO warranty is about to expire. Does anyone have what I would call an "old school" maintenance schedule that I should follow moving forward. What I mean by "old school" is a schedule that DOESNT tell you that some critical fluids are lifetime. The car has a hair less than 67,000 miles and I have performed every Volvo recommended service to date including the 67,500 service (yesterday). I plan on driving this car for at least a few more years due to the low mileage and great condition of the car.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 98 s70 w/ 192,000 miles on it and still running smooth and strong except for poor mileage (about 20mpg). I just do my regular maint. religiously (like change oil every 5kmiles, ATF ev ery 20k mi.- drain and refill, change filters per sched or as needed etc.) I don't drive aggresively and avoid sudden acceleration and stops w/c is bad for the car. I plan to run this car till it dies whenever that is.
My 03 s60 w. 81k miles still sprints like a v8 but am having cold hard starts. I was advised to check the purge solenoid valve.
'Still playing with it but besides that, it's running perfect. Good luck

As stated before, your fluids are your main area of focus. I do my oil every 3k b/c I like to play it safe, ATF every 20-30k, coolant every 2 years or so. plugs 10-15k. Are you looking for information on a specific item or just a general idea of what to replace and when?

Trans fluid 30K
Synthetic oil 5K
Brake fluid - 2 years
Power steering fluid - 2 years
Coolant -3 years - use Volvo coolant and distilled water
Green radiator cap - 3 years.

If its AWD - get the Volvo fluid out of the diff and bevel gear and replace with a top quality syntetic 75W-90 GL-5

Replace Haldex fluid every 30-50K

Basically a general idea of what to replace and when....its a 2.5T AWD with sport package......Since I have only done volvo recommended service and changed the standard oil every 3000 to 3500 miles......are any of these fluid changes that the other replies have referenced completed duing the volvo services?
