Ordering parts online from Canada

Post by syrdon »

I'm in Vancouver Canada, just purchased a 1996 850 turbo wagon. Wondering about purchasing parts online, looking at buying tailgate struts from the FCP Groton site and would like to hear from other Canadians whether their experience has been pretty straightforward. I just called the local Lordco and they're selling the struts for $70 Can each, the Groton site has them (aftermarket) for $20 US each, seems worth the added hassle of ordering online?

fcp is an excellent choice never had a problem

d ont forget the fact of being in canada there a customs taxes when you receive shippement, from the us or other countries all taxes are included in fcp's shippement cost i was told they are a resident seller in canada, some other online stores will not include taxes and duty having you to dish ou additional funds upon receipt, always inquiere if taxes and duty are included

by the way try to stay away from the aftermarket parts that are labeled under scantech or mtc as the quality is rather on the poor side, especialy all electronics (sensors )stay with volvo oem parts or parts from their original supplier such as bosch, bougiecord, etc.

cheers !

I was going to get some E-code lens form FCP Groton once I make sure that the car is fine, and only ScanTech manufacturers them... Lots of people use them too and they all have nothing but good things to say about it.

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding aftermarket, I've read the threads for replacing the tailgate struts, and the only issue mentioned with the aftermarket ones is that they're slightly longer and require a bit more "futzing" to install.

+1 to FCP Groton,

I get cost through my shop and FCP is often cheaper shipped and taxes in then my local suppliers.
If your in no rush for parts, theyre the way to go.

I can't speak towards the being Canadian bit, but I can speak towards the FCP hatch struts. I got a set from them a few months ago and they're easy to install, just make sure you have a mop handle or something equally as tall (maybe another human?) so you can jam the hatch open which will help the repair. Yes, the struts seemed like they were about 3 mm longer, so I wound up using a pair of adjustable pliers to squeeze the strut onto the mounting ball. The struts I got had a small wrap-around pin that you'll need to remove before installing.
