o2 sensors

Post by markofmanhattan »

1995 855glt,
the dealer wants to charge $1150.23 to replace both front and rear o2 sensors. WOW! I need to know if I can drive the car 300-400 miles befor I replace them. Or will I damage the cat?

Find a new dealer. Or if handy it is an DIY but you need to raise the car to do the change. You can buy a $10 O2 socket at any parts store

I rarely see the rear ones go bad; they have nothing to do with fuel trim anyways. But yeah, you can drive a few hundred miles. You might get crappy gas mileage over that time and the car may feel less powerful, but it won't hurt anything. That being said, don't go too long without changing the front o2, as a consistently rich condition can cause catalytic converter damage. I simply cannot believe my eyes when I read that they want to charge you $1150  to replace $300 in parts that take no more than an hour tops to install.

My car is also giving the o2 code (212) Does replacing it make a noticeable difference in your fuel economy? My car seems to be a little rough on gas. Is there anything else that would help improve it?
