high water aftermath
high water aftermath
Drove through high water. Started car next day, ran fine. Following day, car would not start. Quick jump, started but bad noise from belt side. Assumed it was the alternator. Removed alternator, had it tested. Failed, replaced it. Car started fine, but horrible sound coming from pulleys. Car idles fine, but very loud screeching sound. Not sure what it is. Drained oil, pulled spark plugs, etc. Some signs of water but not much. Any ideas about what is causing the sound? It's a '98 V70 T5. Second post, new to the site and appreciate everyone's input. I'm better at fixing things, worse at explaining them.

Probably need to replace the serpentine belt, or the AC compressor has seized up.
Pull that belt off again, and try spinning all of the pulleys by hand and see what, if anything, is binding.
I drove through the same storm you did yesterday, and knocked out my alternator for ~20 seconds after going through a large puddle.

Cool, thanks for the reply. That was my next thought. Just didn't want to cut my hands anymore than I already have. Idled well after replacing alternator, but now idles very slow almost to the point of stalling. I'll try that and get back to you. Thanks again.
