1999 volvo S80 vibration
Hello everybody, I was hoping someone could tell me some info about this vibration I just started having on my s80,its 1999 model with 136k and I first thought that a wheel lost a weight and created this vibration ,but the funny thing is that it goes away and comes back. Now I am thinking maybe its an axle.....Please if anyone has had similar eperiences I would be grateful for any input . Thank You

I would say that if you're getting shaking when you accelerate and no other time, yes, it's an axle.
But check everything else to make sure by getting your car up in the air and trying to shake the tire left to right and up and down.
I'm going to move this over to the S80 forum in addition; you can find it there

We just had our 2004 S80 with 152,000 on it checked out because it was vibrating when I stepped on the accelerator between 50-70 mph. It doesn't do it all the time but it has slowly gotten more consistent and worse. They said the axles would need to be replaced - it has to do with a tripod that is between the two axles. I am not a car person but thought I would share this. I was hoping it was something else which is why I got on this forum. We have not done the repairs yet, due to the cost but thought I would post what we found out.

Had a very similar thing happen with a couple of my past volvos and also school buses I drive (in the school year). Turned out to be a strange problem. The wheels were basically in balance but were "out" just enough so that when I turned (freeway speeds) just a little right or left the individual wheels got "synchronized" in the "out of balance" and together they made the steering wheel shake. (sympathetic vibration, or harmonics). Turned a little the other way (next bend in the road) and the problem was gone. Hard to believe, so I rotated front to rear and issue was gone.
The school buses were the same issue but the vibration really huge! Same resolution (changed the front wheels and tires out).
