rear o2 sensor pulled out

Post by percvdrlty »

So the day after I bought this 99 v70 glt (2.4l), the engine light came on. One code that came up was the rear o2 sensor. I looked down from the top of the engine and the upper connections harnesses were floppy because the bracket was missing the proper clips that hold them down. So I moved the rear harness to what I thought was out of the way. As it turns out, its new location was too close to the steering links and one right turn yanked the connectors cleanly out of the bracket.

So as I have the drivers side part of the car dismantled, I realize that I don't know which order to reconnect the wires (with contacts). The wires I have are as follows:

1. Thicker gauge Green w/Yellow stripe
2. black
3. brown
4. brown w/white stripe.

Any direction regarding how to properly order these wires would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ok alldata's colors don't quite match to what you say you have but here's what I got going from the car side to the sensor side.

pin 1.Black to Green
pin 2.Green w/Orange stripe to White
pin 3.Brown to Grey
pin 4.Brown w/Grey to Black

Pins 1 and 2 are the O2 heater circuit
Pins 3 and 4 are the O2 signal circuit

Great. Your colors are exactly as found in my engine. I typed up my first post from memory, but when I then went back out and had a look, the combinations were a bit different than I had described. This is just confirmation that my memory isn't what it used to be (or at least not what I remember it being...)

Anyway, I will give it a try tomorrow with the info you provided. Is there a special trick to getting the pins back into the bracket? They seem to be a snug fit with the little rubber gaskets that are attached just below the contact pin.

one other question: You post gave me the confidence to look at AllData's wiring diagram, and now I can safely say that I understand it.

But the diagram gives the pin order as: 2, 1, 3, 4.

The pin bracket I have is flat (not square or circular) and the the order is sequential from 1 to 4. So when I hook up these pins from left to right (or from the lowest numbered side) do I follow the bracket order or diagram?

Sorry if this seems remedial, but I just want to be sure I have it right.

Follow the bracket order, the order on the diagram is usually arranged for ease or reading/tracing wires. As for reinstalling the wires a little lube on the rubber should help them slide in but if they pulled out they may be damaged and not 'click' back in.
If this is the case I would just go to a scrap yard and cut out another connector and solder it in.

Good luck
