Parking brake broken?

Post by martinpa »

applied my parking brake on a hill. Now the parking brake handle is loose and non reponsive. The car will not move (so the parking brake is engaged) but the handle is just floppy. i imagine the cable has snapped?

is this an easy fix? if so, what are the steps?

Thanks.

UPDATE. I put the car in drive and rolled it forward, and the break realeased?!?!

Cable is ok.

What could that have been?

To me it sounds like your shoes got stuck and then they released when you started driving. I'm thining you may need to replace either the parking break shoes or some other peice of the hardware, liek the springs for example. Take off the rear rotors and post a couple of pictures.
