What part of this parking brake cable is broken?

99 S70 GLT.

Picture shows the wheel end of the driver side parking brake cable.
Looks like broken threads inside.

Do I need to replace the entire parking brake cable?

Yes, that's where they rust out and break. Replace the whole thing.

chrafael is right. They typically seize further up, but when they seize and you pull on the parking brake, the force breaks the threads out at the back plate. You have to replace the whole part. There are a couple of how-to's on the forum for this.
