Hey all,

I have read through many posts and can't quite figure out what to do yet. All my power windows/locks work except for the front pass. window and it is stuck down. I have taken off the door panels, cleaned the contacts, removed both switches, tried it again, and no luck.

While I consider myself fairly good at the mechanical stuff (replaced or repaired just about everything on my various old VWs, Volvo, and diesel Mercs), electrical gremlins always confound me. I read that the window regulator motors rarely go bad and it is possible to supply power to the correct contacts to force the window up. How would I go about doing this (be specific, please)? If the motor is bad, is it possible to manually move the window up and leave it there? The car is not worth a whole lot and I'd rather not put more money in it than I have to.

You very likely have a bad switch. Could be either one.
You can put 12 volts right on the motor to test it and get the window closed.
Unplug the pass side window switch and find the Green (Pin 4) and White (Pin 5) wires.
These are the two wires that go straight to the motor from the switch.
The switch reverses the polarity to the motor to make the window go up or down.

You can try to clean the contacts on the switch once you get it out...worked for one of my rear ones, or the master switch panels go up for sale on Ebay all the time for pretty cheap.

Thank you both for the quick replies. Lest I do something really stupid, what is the best way to supply 12v of power to switch?

I have about a 15' peice of 14 guage extention cord that I've set up for that kinda stuff.
Big, battery terminal size alligator clips and a fuse holder at one end and small clips on the other.
12 volts whereer I need it! ( at least within 15' of the battery...). A small battery will also work.
Just remember to "Use a Fuse". :wink:
