HI(got a couple questions)

Post by Guest »

What's up everyone I'm new to the forum and I got a couple questions. Just bought my first volvo, a 93 850 glt, and I'm havind g some trouble.

First the 313 code comes on every once in a while. I'm able to clear it out by moving the shifter from P-L back and forth a few times. I'm told this is a PNP switch problem. Does it need to be replaced? can it be cleaned or repaired without replacement? is it bad for the car to correct the problem in the P-L manner? If it needs to be replaced, where can i find one outside buying it from the dealer.

Also I get a 444 trouble code in P3(i think it is P3). I think it has something to do with the ABS, but not sure exactly what. The ABS light stays on a few seconds longer than the other indicator lights when the car is started. any one know what this means?

Where can I find a list of trouble codes, the car did not come with any manuals?

Sorry to throw so much out there on first post, but I'm getting desperate and running out of cash!!!!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

P3 444 is a code for the accelerator sensor signal. I would say if there is a serious problem with the ABS, the light will not go off even after the car is started. If it stays on a little bit longer than the other lights (and turns off), this is somewhat normal. Even if you lose the ABS, you still have all your normal braking functions.

PNP switch is a common problem on these cars. I know several people that have had very good results using the $45 replacement PNP switch from Autozone.

Thanks for the help guys. Its greatly appreciated. Takes a load off my mind. Will definetly try the switch from Autozone. The brakes seem to work fine, so I'll forget about that for now. Thanks again.
