after market stereo problem!

Post by dcm1245 »

Installed after market stereo in s60 2001. Resulted in complete shut down of car. After 500.00 with mechanic, they claim that volvo only allows their radios to be installed in their car. I replaced mine do to the factory radio not working and speakers busted. How do I by pass this problem, so my new stereo will work? My spouse said to by pass the computer and connect to the battery.

Can you put the factory unit back and see if the car will work?

Check with Crutchfield, Best Buy or other stereo install shops - they should be able to get you a harness adapter that will allow you to connect to the factory wire harness. I'd also check with a dealership to confirm what your mechanic reported - which sounds very odd.

+1

Did you use a wiring harness or did you cut into the stock harness? If you cut into the stock harness, that is probably your issue.

Did my new stereo in my 02 s60T5 and had no issues. bought a wiring harness though. i did have to give up my steering control volume and the navigation pop up, but that didn't matter since i never use it as i have a garmin that's easier to use.
