Regardless, the temperature shown in the trip computer area on my dash was consistently about 20-30 degrees F higher than ambient, especially after a drive (Atlanta's hot, but not 130 degrees!) I kept trying to find the temperature sensor--and discovered that was my problem.
Turns out the temperature sensor that fits into the driver's side lower grey plastic cowling on the bumper can pop out and fall into a metal tray under the engine compartment--not receiving the proper airflow it requires for an anywhere near reasonable reading.
After popping off the cover, I fished around with my hand and found the little sensor which clipped back into the plastic hole. Now the temperature reads correctly (at least while the car is in motion and it has airflow.)
