'02 XC70 air conditioner problem

Post by shadowstalker »

Hi,
I am having a problem with my 2002 XC70's air conditioner. It will blow cold air for a little while, then will seems like it switches to the vent blowing warm air. It is in the upper 90's, low 100's around here so this is a problem! I am a novice when it comes to cars, so I'm not sure where to start. Could it be low on freon? Where can I check the freon levels?
Thanks..

From my experience with my 850 being low on R134a (Freon was gone by 1992 or so in the US), the compressor will cycle on and off, and work itself nearly to death with very little R134a to maintain cool air. This means the clutch will engage every five or ten seconds all day -- faint click sound, plus the engine RPM will dip a little when you're idling... I'm sure you can recall when this has happened with the AC on. If this sounds like it's mechanically a bad thing, it is. But I digress...

So the short answer is: in my opinion, no.

It sounds like a vent problem to me, where the flap is moving to warm when it shouldn't. Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe this AC page will be.

I just started having the same issue with my 2001 V70T5M. When I first turn on the ac it is nice and cold but last for about maybe 10 minutes or so then quits working. I am away from home on a road trip so I do not have my tool with me. I did find that the AC clutch cut out on me and was not engaged. Then I got a low voltage warning in the messsage. But the ac was having this problem about 5 dazs before the massage popped up today. The battery is about a year old from Volvo. I am at a loss without some tools to check out the szstem. Any ideas?
