PCV valve (or other gizmo) replacement ?

Help ! I seemed to have cracked some sort of gizmo (PCV valve ?) that is in front of my air filter compartment when I was changing the filter. I've got a few pictures of it if you want me to send them along. It basically is a valve, switch or sensor of some sort. As you face the car looking at the air filter compartment - the gizmo is between the filter and the chassis. It has two tubes into it and some wire running out of it. It apparently can twist open, revealing a long spring and a diagraphm. It wont lock when I try to twist it closed - the plastic broke. I've got duct tape holding it together now.

What is it ? Where can I get another one ? Will my duct tape work until I can get a new one ?

Not a PCV valve.
I will get you the proper name for it later and post back
Try to be more careful or stay out of your engine compartment
(and CLEAN YOUR ENGINE).

In reply to your second question, think for a minute and say to yourself,
"Where would I buy a VOLVO part for a VOLVO car"?
I think the answer will come to you.......

Thanks JRL...Just did the spring cleaning....Yakima is a dusty place....

I ask the question about where to get a replacement - as we have a 200+ mile journey to the nearest Volvo dealer - was hoping someone with good experience with online volvo parts places might have suggestions.

eeuroparts.com is another one that has many things, sometimes the harder-to-get ones.

A bit hard to tell, but it seems like the aux. vacuum switch is what you broke.
That turns on the aux. vacuum pump
You know that little bzzzst when the car is turned on.
It's a Volvo part so you're going to have to order it from somewhere
