Hello folks,
As some of you may know my engine went kaput not too long ago. It has been swapped out with another engine I got from a junkyard. It hasn't been fully installed yet... Still have more work to do before it's ready to start.
Something odd I noticed today was the turbo from the bad engine said 15T...my new engine came with a turbo that says 16T.
When I bought the engine from the junker I specified the last digits to be Vin 57 instead of 58.
The Junker engine Vin # is: YV1LS5717S2181926 1995 T5 2.3
My old kaput engine Vin # is: YV1LS5720T1270916 1996 2.3 T5
Am I going to have any problems running this junker engine?
The reason I noticed this today was because when we tried mounting the new turbo(16T) on the old hardware of the 15T it didn't fit.
The distance I have colored red in the photo below was not like the distance colored in white.
Am I in trouble or am I lucky to get a 16T Turbo instead of a 15T ?

Many upgrade the 15T turbos because of boost fade. This happens much less to the 16T, so they can hold boost for longer. Your 16T is the same as the ones that came in the S70's and 850R's.
I'm not sure how they go about changing from the straight flange to the angled flange, however.
I'll do some poking around and get back to you.

Someone must have changed that out before.
OK, the answer is you'll need to get a new downpipe to fit that flange. Now you have an excuse to spring for the 3" OBX exhaust and open it up even more
Oh, and 850R's didn't have a bigger turbo. Oops.

Hi Justin,
That's what the funny thing is. I think they took the flange from the junker engine and used it. I think they used the 15T exhaust. The turbo is all bolted in right now. Is there going to be a problem...ie pressure problem?
Many thanks!

Ohhhhh, my bad. I thought the picture above was actually yours, and those flanges are different.
If you've got a 16T with a straight flange, it should bolt right up no problem. The coolant lines will need to be slightly reworked, but I'm sure you've figured that out by now
To answer your earlier question, the ECU won't care. The 15G and 16T are not really much different in terms of developing boost, you may or may not notice a difference yourself.
