where is the oil filter

I went to change the oil in my wife's 2001 XC70 and I can't find the filter. Where is it?

That car uses the cartridge style filter. You must also have the tool to remove the filter element. Make sure to use a new cartridge o-ring also.

Do all 2001+ XCs and 70s share that method/filter? I'm guessing they wouldn't make it different just for the XCs. If so, it's something I didn't know about them . I assumed they inherited the same screw-on filter of the 850 and '98-00 70 family.

From mid '98 on they all use the cartridge insert. (less waste). Be sure to use a cap for removing the cartridge cover as it is made of plastic.
