2001 S60 2.4L NonTurbo Hissing Sound Until Brake Applied
Interesting problem @60,000+ miles. A loud hissing continuous sound, when the car warms up after 5 minutes, has been occuring. The hissing sound stops momentarily after the breaks are applied, but once the foot pedal is released the hiss sound resumes, unless the car is traveling over 30 to 40 miles per hour. A dealer has advised that a Master Power Break Booster needs to be replaced ($520 parts 4.5 hours labor at $110). Can anyone confirm the dealers thought?

I have had this problem and had to replace the brake booster... kind of expensive. In the US they must be replaced by law, outside the US they can be repaired (much cheaper). I'm betting that's what the problem is though.
