Transmission Mount replacement...2001 V70...

Post by jpars »

My neighbor is a great mechanic but he doesn't work on cars for a living. I have a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 wagon and he and I (he), determined that my transmission mount needs to be replaced. I had the top engine mount replaced a while back and it appears fine. Based on the engine movement when you take your foot off of the brake and the tranny engages, it seems clear that it's the tranny mount. I was going to go ahead and buy this one.......

but am I about the buy the right one? And do I need to buy more than one? I'm going to buy a Chilton's soon for the car so that I am not in the dark on parts. I have found that if I take a minute and search and find the part, and take it to my mechanic (not this buddy I'm referring to), I save approx., 50% on the parts. Please someone advise. Thank you very much in advance. jpars

If you're sure that is the mount that's needed, that one is the correct tranny mount
Also check the front lower mount, they fail much more frequently.

If you are going to get the lower trans mount, I would consider the poly one. It will last longer and sure up the shifting.

Also, check the mount that JRL mentioned. He is right, this one seems to fail much sooner then the lower trans mount.

Would it hurt to replace both of them? What sort of extra man hours do you think we're talking? Thanks a lot, by the way!

I just bought and changed one.
You can do it by yourself - it is so easy.
Which one is the poly one mentioned above?

Unfortunately nobody sells the entire lower mount configured the way mine is but I would suggest using a stock rubber big end bush and a Powerflex poly small end bush. Set up this way, you won't get the ugly vibrations like you will with a poly big end and by using a small-end poly bush you pretty much eliminate the failure point in the lower transmission mount.

Cheers,
