A/C intermittently working

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

A/C intermittently working

Post by apache31 »

Volvo 2003 S80 T6
mileage 82,000

Trying to help my mother here.

She reports that her A/C operates intermittently. It will come on and blow cool air amd and then go off and not blow cool air.

Is this indicative of anything obvious before I refer her to a shop?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rich

Have her take it to a shop and have it recharged. Should be $30 or so. Call around. If they try to upsell her, tell her to say no and just get the recharge.

If they tell her the recharge won't work, tell her to not have anything done, then tell us here what they say and we'll go from there.

I'm assuming you're not in the same city as she is.

Correct. Not in the same city.

Ok. Will-do.

Someone told her that the clucth on the compressor was probably failing. Quite possible, isn't it? Considering the intermittent description?

Darn. If it was a 5 cylinder Volvo I'd say print out the shim instructions here and take it to an indy Volvo mechanic and have them shim the clutch, or try it yourself. But it's the 6. Soo... I suggest just take it in to an indy Volvo mechanic and leave it in their hands.

Maybe someone here will know about the AC unit on the straight 6.

Let us know what happens.
