2008 XC70 springs

Post by Detailed »

Greetings -

Does anoyone know if the T5 version of this car has stiffer damping/springs? Beyond that, does the T5 damping/spring configuration fit the non-turbo version of the vehicle without modification?

I have the non-turbo and the ride is way too soft for me. I already changed out the Conti 4X4's out, but the car still handles like a wet sponge.

Any suggestions either OEM or aftermarket?

There is no T5 version of a 2008.
Check your facts and please ask EXACTLY what you want to know

JRL - Whats your suggestion to ask for a recommendation for stiffer shocks and springs?

Given the same generation of this car is avaialable in a T5 version, one would believe there are plenty of interchangable parts.
Maybe the strut/shock/springs are one of them?

You keep saying it's available as a T5
IT IS NOT (not in the US) anyway
Are you in Europe?

I know Heico (Germany) makes springs for the FWD version but they're usually not the same rear springs as a AWD
You may want to Google them, get their email and ask them if they do.
No one in the states makes any springs for AWD models as far as I know.

What you need to do is try to buy a set of T6 AWD (Europe only) but as you may or may not know, the only way you can buy a Volvo factory spring is to give the dealer the chassis number so what you need to do is try to find someone over in Europe who has one of these and ask them for their chassis code in the fender plate then have someone in Europe buy them and send them over! (Fun, eh)

There are T6 versions of this car in the US.

So the "5" in my post is a typo or brain fart, no difference. I'm not a parts counter guy or even into Volvos. I had never driven this car until last weekend.

It's still a model that may have OEM fit parts that will provide what I'm looking for.

I have employees in the UK that can get these parts for me if necessary. But Im sure I can go to Volvo here and get the T6 susupension parts to stiffen this thing up a bit.

Anyone know if the factory Volvo Xenon lights are a direct drop in?

No you can't.
(Try and you will see what I mean)
The first thing the parts person will ask you for is a chassis code.

Parts dept has no way to buy springs by type or name, just chassis code.

Since this car is not on the US part list even if you had the chassis code froim a Euro car, I don't believe they can order it.
(The last sentence I'm not 100% on) but I will bet you 10 bucks that what I said will happen if you try to order it the way you will try to. I've tried over the past 10 years..... very unsuccessfully.

I wanted to do the ecact same thing. I had Eibachs on my 02 S60AWD. The fronts were too low so I came up with the idea of S60T5 springs for the front.
No matter how much I pleaded, they could not do it until the dealership took an 02T5 on trade.
I opened the hood, wrote down the chassis code and my springs were here the next day.

Unfortunately you have no comperable US car to do this with so you DO need someone to get you a chassis code off a Euro T6 AWD

As for the lights, probably yes.
You will need some software but they should work but again, I'm not sure with this new platform

Sounds like I need to a little hustling for the Volvo parts guy to cooperate...good advice.

I'll copy a VIN and code off a T6 car in their lot and tell him to order the the parts for me. I dont want the Equo parts, I need the springs and shocks off a US T6 to try.

No parts guy is going to "hustle" for you because they CAN'T! There is no way to do what you want except the way I told you you can.
I am done, good luck. You're like talking to a brick wall

Who said the struts needed to be from a 2008? The car is the same body run today as it was in 08. Its not like Im trying to retro-fit modern car parts on an antique car.

I wrote that I'll find a T6 on their lot, not an 08 T6, not an 04 Hyundai, just a new T6...copy the digits have my mechanic order the parts for me. Do you know any new car dealers with new 2008 models sitting on their lots, I dont.

What's the worst that can happen? My mechanic has to figure out how to make the springs/shocks fit or he send the parts back to Volvo. Its a 2 hour operation. Not a major problem. If there is a restocking fee, big deal, its the price to pay to experiment.

Please correct me if I'm way off here but didn't you say you wanted something stiffer and not floaty?
These would be the same springs as you have now and if by chance they're a hair different, you (or I) would not notice the difference.

The only way your car will feel and handle better is stiffer and lower springs can only be found in Europe.
