940td intercooler clutch replacement

hi,can anyone advise me how to remove and replace the clutch on my 940 turbo diesel intercooler 4gears and overdrive vw/audi 2.4engine thank you

This is no different to replacing a clutch on any car. However, for a clutch replacement some special tools are a must and on the turbo diesel 940 there are extra tools needed.

If you have done a clutch replacement before you should find this one easy. If you haven't done a clutch replacement, and haven't got the aligning tools you may be better going to one of the fast fit places. The book time for the 940 turbo diesel is 1.7 hours.

many thanks bill,my friend who is a mechanic and i removed the clutch this afternoon but the new clutch which we have been sent is larger in size than the old one and will have to be changed.there are no clues on the bell housing so we are in the dark,any thoughts ?

The early 940s had the M46 gearbox and the later ones had the M90 which I think is bigger.

The VADIS part numbers for the M46 are: Clutch 3520553; Driven plate 9143473; Release bearing 3549391.

thanks bill,you,re right again as usual.they'd put the wrong clutch in the m46 packaging.get job done monday thanks again.
