Sun Roof Guide Rail?? Cracked

Post by LakeFlambeau »

I have been having problems with my 1998 S70 Sedan's sunroof. Wind noise from not being properly
sealed when in position. So I removed the plastic covers last night, following all of the directions
that are out there for sun roof work. I was hoping for a loose screw, snugging it up and ready to go.
Unfortunately, I found a cracked part on the passenger side, on the piece that has the hinge in the front.
It is along the bottom part, not the top part where the front screw goes in. It cracked in the area of the
red circle. Hopefully the picture is readable. This is not a picture of my actual part, just a borrowed'
picture to show where crack is.
Anyway I talked to a Volvo dealer, showing him this picture and he came up with the part
being the Right Guide Rail, PN 9159880.
Does this sound right? If so, can you get at it from the top, or do you have to
remove the whole headliner to replace this part?
I have read through a lot of the posts on sunroof work, but unable to find an answer to this
question.

Thanks....

EDIT... Looks like picture is very hard to see. The crack is inside the yellow circle, not on the part that
swivels up, but along the part that stays straight when putting sunroof in vented position. Hope this makes sense.

EDIT 2 Posted a better picture

EDIT 3 Added some more pictures of actual boken piece. Top picture is the drivers non broken side.
The other pictures are of the broken passenger side. It seems like just the front piece could be replaced, if available.
Anybody have any ideas? The first thing I am going to try is the JB Weld thing also. Maybe drill some holes in each side
so I can get a little more area to grab.

Thanks

mine is cracked in the same way on the drivers side. The REplacement cost for that part is 180$ the drive side is 220$. from the way the diagram looks i feel like u have too take off the head liner to replace that part. its the whole side rail you need.
