dead steering wheel

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

It sounds like you have a problem with the steering wheel module. Does you turn signals and wipers work properly? Are the functions dead at all times or intermittent?

You might be able to get them to work "temporarily" by removing/replacing the fuses for the swm/cruise/turn signals or by disconnecting the battery briefly...(check for turn signals/etc first and post back).

Post back and let us know if the turn signals work or not before you try to disconnect and what (if anything) changed afterward.

I have a similar problem. My stereo controls just stopped working. But here's a twist. For a long time, maybe since I bought the car, my high beams would not stay on. I could flash them, but they would not stay on. Last week, the stereo controls stopped working. Suddenly my high beams are now working correctly.

Since I bought the car last December, I get all sorts of intermittant problem messages. Brake, ABS, STC, etc. I've learned to ignore them. My cuise control used to work when all the problem lights were off. But if a light came on, the cruise control would suddenly shut off. Figured is was a sensor, like wheels speed. Recently though, even when all the problem lights are off, the cruise control still doesn't work.

My turn signals work just fine. Any ideas besides a fuse for this one?
One other thing. I let a little girl drive this car shortly before this happened and she had to adjust the position of the steering wheel, and I had to adjust it back. I don't know that it had ever been adjusted before that. I can't say this started right after that, but I noticed it within a week.
