HU-413 attach CD changer

Post by jruberto »

Purchased a used 2001 V70 T5 with the HU-413 radio. Was surprised when removing the cargo bay electrical panel cover to find a 6 disc CD changer! It appears to be wired & connected (a molex power connecter & a DIN connector), the cartridge ejects fine & accepts CDs. Only problem is the radio does not recognize it (CD does not appear as a "source"). I've gotten into the diagnostic screens on the radio, but have no documentation as to the myriad illegible options offered there.

Any advice on how I might coax this thing into "seeing" the CD changer? Thanks!

Best,
j

Anyone?

Put simply: if the changer is connected correctly, will the "CD CHANGER" source just magically appear by itself, or is there some process to notify the head unit that there's something new attached?

Thanks. :-)

the HU 413 is a base radio unit. The 2001 V70 T5 came with the HU-613 unit that has CD changer capability.

Somehow the original radio has been replaced with the base unit.

according to the manual, the HU-413 (as well as the HU-613 & HU-803) supports the optional CD changer.

then, pull the radio unit out and make sure the cd changer cable from the back is plugged in to the back of the unit

will do.

which brings me to my original question: if the changer is connected correctly, will the "CD CHANGER" source just magically appear by itself, or is there some process to notify the head unit that there's something new attached?

if the cable is connected correctly, then the head unit is defective or there is a break in the cable connection.

By the way, the T5 model was the top of the line model then and came with either the HU-603 or 803, that's why I suspect the head unit has been replaced already.
