1993 940 Estate, B230f Regina, MAP sensor location?

Hello all,
I have a follow up question since I have no replies to my previous posting "940 acceleration hesitation" .
Can someone tell me where the "MAP" sensor is on the B230f "Regina" engine is and what it looks like. Seems everybody knows about the MAF sensor but Regina does not use one. I have not been able to find a picture of it and it's location anywhere in repair manuals or the Internet. Once located, can it be cleaned , like the MAF cleaner ? Thanks

I'm sorry you have had no reply to your earlier post but I have been away for 12 days and am only now starting to catch up. The attached shows the MAP sensor (#28) and it would appear to be in the rear corner of the driver's side of the engine compartment.

The MAP sensor can't be cleaned like the MAF sensor but it is very susceptible to bad vacuum connections so the vacuum lines should be very carefully checked before taking any other action.

A good reference can be found here.

This gives basic testing for the MAP sensor.

The map sensor is located on the left spring strut tower brace running from the firewall to the strut tower...On the outboard side of the strut is the diagnostic unit, and right next it on the inboard side of the strut brace is the MAP...It has a small white plastic vacuum hose attached at the bottom...There is a simple test procedure for it, but unfortunately I cannot find it right now...

I am experiencing similar problems with my 93 regina. the MAP sensor was used on a lot of GM cars during the early 90's and can be found at most parts stores. If you but from a volvo dealer it is $$$. if you buy from a chevy dealer it is $$, if you it buy from autozone it is $. Same part, same manufacturer, same part #. Having said that, replacing this part did not fix my problem. I am now looking at either readjusting or re replacing my throttle position sensor, or getting a fuel pressure reading to see if my fuel pump is on its way out. I have already replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, air filter, fuel filter, oxygen sensor, TPS, air temp sensor, both engine water temp sensors, inspected the cat, radio suppression relay, cleaned throttle body and idle air motor, checked all the sensors I could with the OBD 1 system, ran a can of seafoam through the gas tank, cheked everywhere I could think of for vacuum leaks, prayed, and cussed. The car still boggs down under a load worse if running the AC, until after 2500 RPM when it then runs more or less normal. With air at 70mph, I get about 24 mpg (USA), and it always passes emissions. So, I am very interested in the returns you get from your posts. Good luck.

uses 1 quart oil every 4000 miles. And yes I'm proud of that! Now if I could just get it to accelerate.

Hey, my hesitation problem is gone! After trying everything else that was cheaper, I had a new fuel pump installed. No more hesitation. I had been told that usually, fuel pumps were either good or bad on these cars, that if the fuel pump was bad, it would not pump fuel. My 150,000 mile old aftermarket fuel pump was evidently dying slowly. Do you have any idea how much more enjoyable it is to drive a car that does not hesitate for 3 seconds before it accelerates? If it is a Regina, and you have severe hesitation, don't rule out a weak fuel pump.

By the way, Someone on this site said that their car was producing 30 lbs of fuel pressure instead of 36lbs, and that was their clue to replace the pump. If you read this post, thanks for the heads up.

Thank you for the update. It is something to bear in mind as my experience with the Regina system is absolutely zero. It wasn't used in the UK, except for the '94 940.

"Those, with cars having Rex-Regina ignition/fuel management systems, may want to note that GM Part#12569240 is identical to Volvo Part #3517892....GM used this part in a wide range of cars, from 1983 until about 2003.

eBay has a slug of them...use " 12569240 GM " as a search expression.
