How do you replace the front brakes? Is there a trick? or do you have to remove the caliper? or something?
Thanks
Front Brake Replacement on 1993 Volvo 940
It is a trick, but when knowing it you will wonder why are not all the other brakes done like this!
Press back the brakepads. In the inner lower side it is a big bolt under the caliper. Loosen that and remove it. After that you can flip up the whole caliper and the brakpads will actually drop out! You can even slide the whole caliper unit off from the upper pin.
These brakes are done to work at the Scandinavian muddy, snowy and SALTY roads.

I read that you should NEVER resurface the rotors or for Volvos at least. It cuts a considerable service life (mileage) and may even warp.

Start checking the thickness, if you have a 280mm rotor, minimum thickness is 23mm, if you have a 287mm rotor the minimum thickness is 20mm.
Then it is just to take the caliper away and hang it in some wire, do not loosen the brake hooses. Loosen the small brasspin between the wheelbolts. Lift the rotor away. I love those brakes!
