What a great mechanic!! Does he have a clone in the DC area.

Well, my mechanic replaced the air mass meter and I drove the car home last night...no stalling so far. Everytime I started to idle, I would get really nervous but she was as smooth as the first time I drove her. I wasn't completely sold, so I took her out a couple of hours later and still no stalling. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'll keep you posted.

Day 75 here after 2nd quickie cleaning (w/o removing TB from engine). Still OK.

Oh, and other Guest, you sir are a lucky guy. I'm predicting $500-1,000 if you took it to a local schister or the Volvo Dealer. Sometimes we consumers get lucky to deal with an honest person!

I've known this guy for a few years and would trust him with any car. If he doesn't know whats wrong, he'll seek outside help as well. But it's true to say that integrity is hard to find, let alone an honest mechanic.
Cheers :)
Oh and sorry to all those who aren't near his workshop, But if you want to see him he is at Rydalmere N.S.W. Australia.

It would stall while driving and start it right up again. I ignored it....

Eventually while I was driving I would lose power and when I would come to a stop you can forget pulling away. I would have to wait about two hours before starting up again.

I brought to my Volvo mechanic who is the best in the area and he thought it was cam shaft and/or PNP. He replaced both, and ran good for a month and all of a sudden same darn symptons.

Should I give up? Should I mess with fuel filter, relay, pump, ect.

Vulva (hehe),

Depends on how mechanical you are and how much $ you have. Theorectically, having someone read the cars computer codes should pinpoint what the problem is "now" so unfortunately you may have to go through the remaining items on your list and those listed previously in this thread to find the culprit. The key is to find an honest mechanic if you can't troubleshoot repair these items yourself.

BTW, for my weekly report,

Day 82 here after 2nd quickie cleaning (w/o removing TB from engine). Still OK.

I'm going to clean hoses and change fuel filter.

I want to resolve this issue with $500 damage or less.

She will go to the shop next week and I will post the results, but in the meantime if anyone has a good suggestion... Lay it on me.

I have 1993 850 and also have the same problem: all lights are going on and the car stalls: sometimes at the stop, other times while driving. Thinking about changing the fuel relay, but which one? Fuel injection relay or fuel pump relay?
Thanks a lot

My 850 Volvo stalled twice on me today. Once after I drove through one of the busiest intersections in the city (thankfully I could pull over in a turn lane)..took about 1 minute to start. Then 10 minutes later, while approaching another busy intersection, I slowed to turn and it died on me there in the turn lane. Took 6 minutes to start. The second time was worrying me..would not 'fire' at all. Twice I had it going and the car giggled about as if it was hitting on 2 cylinders!!!..Finally it started going. It was frightening as it was 96 degrees out and I had all the kids with me.

I'm getting a new fuel pump on Friday..$320, but I simply must have reliable transportation. Think I'l have Mr. Mechanic look at the fuel relays, too. Any other suggestions?

yes me to - I have a 1995 M-reg 5-cyl 2.5 10 valve se estate

for over a year, ever since I've had the car, my car has not wanted to start after leaving it for a while, around 5/10 mins. but always starts after 4/5 attempts.

This does not happen all the time, thank god. usually after getting petrol
i.e just enough time to fill up pay and get back to the car.

it always starts from cold, and if left longer than 15+ mins.

These times are approx only.

Yesterday, for the first time, just 2 mins from home, whilst cruising at around 50 mph, at very light throttle or even no throttle the engine lost all power, dabbing the throttle had no effect, niether did full throttle, had to pull over, did not start straight away so left it for 30 secs or so and it started fine, it was no trouble for the rest of the day

Is it possible to list all the useful info on one page,

Many thanks Steve

Same failures in the same situations as these other postings..
1998 V70 2.4T AWD

There is a common problem here!

The situation with my car, it will run beautifully for 20+ minuites, and die. When I restarted one time - the exhaust smelled like rotten eggs.
I'm hoping replacing the oxygen sensor might fix it.
Let's hope.
