ATF Oil

Post by Esnoyer »

I have a V70 04 ,At a Volvo Only private service dealer I had a total ATF oil change, the oil was from a company called
Performances on the 5 gal containers, #244DMREBZ The dealer said they use it on all the Volvos,I checked and it is a Dexron 2E or 3 rating.. I understand that Toyota IV or Mobil 3309 is the norm, Should I change to these or go with what is in it now??
Any thoughts or suggestions??

With proper friction modifiers certain ATF's can be made to perform within JWS3309 spec.

From what you have said the ATF used was not JWS3309 spec.

I included you owners manual and the Volvo spec sheet for reference.

If the repairer can not show that the oil is performing at JWS3309 spec they should replace it with the proper oil. In your case the proper ATF is JWS3309. If you have the option between a synthetic and non synthetic JWS3309 oil I would recommend the synthetic.

I would use AMSOIl ATF as its Full Syntheic and they will stand behind it. It meets all requirements. I found out that Mobil ATF 3309 is regular oil base and after writing Volvo there oil is Semi-Syntheic. I have been using AMSOIL in my S60 2.4T for 15k now with no problems and the oil is still red in color. I also agree that you should have the oil change out if it does not meet the requirements. These transmissions have special parts inside of them that require special oil.
