Great news everyone! (In a Farnsworth voice)

Case is somewhat closed on the timing belt issue. I found an invoice from a shop the car was serviced in before and called them up. The belt was replaced at 137,000 in '08. The last reported mileage on the car was 137,772. Very happy!

Just make sure you fix the odometer gear - and get a dealer to read the true mileage - so you can stay on top of it!

It looks to me that the belt was manufactured on the 29th day of February in 2008.

Okay I just finished this job and have a tip that will save a lot of time and effort for everyone. I too was having a touch time getting the torx head bolt off at the thermostat and tried everything. I got to thinking of some old advice from dad for a similar situation and voila it worked. I managed to use a 4mm (may have been 6mm) allen wrench to get it off. I also used this method to get it back on again. Also, the remanufactured ones I used went on perfectly and they seem better built the way Orlando did it.

The oil lines are fun, but can be replaced without dropping the subframe. I think we did a write up on one of ours.

I ended up changing the bolt that holds the retainer clamp. The angle to get to the clamp bolt is what I found difficult.

Overall, it was an easier job than some on the car.
