flashing dash lights, no gauges Topic is solved

my 1993 850 has 136,000 and has started to flash the low fuel light and the service engine light at the same time when started. The fuel and the temp gauges also do not work and the speedometer and tach are not accurate. The car also seems to surge in 3rd gear in time to the flashing lights. can anyone explain this?

Check your ignition switch by wiggling it and see if things straighten out. If so the electric portion of the switch needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the tip - It actually turned out to be the relay under the dash cover on the drivers side - replaced that and everything is grand.

i was wrong - the problem seemed to go away but now it is back - and the blinkers are burning out fuses as well. I have ordered an ignition switch and will install it tonite and see if that helps.

well the electrical portion of the ignition switch was not the cause. I am getting pretty frustrated. I guess I will try the battery next - Is there any type of relay that would affect this somewhere under the dash?

was not able to pull a code off of the #7 terminal - the led just flashes rapidly. Although when I thought I had the problem fixed I tried the terminal again and got 1-1-1 then the problem returned and I get the flashing led again. All other terminals on "A" checked out except for a wheel sensor. Is there anything that terminal "B" can tell?

well in the end it was a relay - a power regulator relay (?) that was in the cluster of relays under the dash (along with the seat belt chime, etc.) My mech replaced it and it is running fine so far (2 days later). The ignition switch was not the problem.
