I drive a 2.1L 1984 240DL, thinking of replacing the carb, because i heard there are better carbs out there, i think i have the petersburg carb. would it be better to rebuild what i have or should i get a different carb and start from there. just trying to get some more power and maybe better mileage.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike
I assume your name (Mike in Calgary) means you live in Calgary Alberta, as do I.
You car probably has the Stromberg carb, although it is a good carb my preference is the SU, which was also available on the 240 series. The SU uses a solid piston and spring set-up rather than the diaphram arrangement that is found on the Stromberg. Switching the carbs is easy, just a bolt on and you should be able to find a donar carb an pick-&-pull.
Now don't expect any huge improvement in either power or fuel economy, but reliability I find is better with the SU
