Hi Nik

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthrea ... light=serp

It is possible to run the T5 without the belt routed round the compressor. You need a shorter belt of course, and finding a suitable one may involve a couple of attempts. The part no in the link above are for a company called Gates, but the last four digits relate to the lenght of the belt. 1270mm should be adequate and the tensioner will take up a few mm's in slack, if no go for the next shortest which in our case is 1264mm.

Good luck
Matt

When the A/C is not enabled the compressor clutch is just another idler pulley and the compressor is not operating...If the clutch bearing is OK, you can simply not use the A/C, or you disconnect the compressor electrics to make sure the A/C is not accidentally enabled...Of course if the clutch bearing is gone, you have no choice but to go the route you are considering...

Okay well i just did some trial and error yesterday and it turns out a 50 inch belt fits perfectly to bypass the ac pump. my pump is pretty frozen. It was squeeling (not the belt though, the ac pump) and smells like burn clutch. Well hope this info helps someone else!

Yup, this helps. I posted a similar question the other day re: my '93 850 GLT. If I remember right, the number someone posted last year was 49.5—so that would be inches. Is the 50 inch belt you found a Gates? What car/engine is it spec'd for, or is that relevant; can I just ask for a 50 inch belt?
Thanks!
JB

I would have no idea what car it was for i just asked for a 50" belt (well i bought like 5 belts of different lengths at the same time, and just returned the others) wich left me plenty of room between the idler and tensioner pulleys. I actually purchased a cheap belt for $11.99 and have had no problems with it but am now keeping a gates belt in the trunk as a spare along with the tool i made using a 3/4" pipe plug for the tensioner.

By chance do you have the gates belt number? Would you describe the routing of the belt without the A/C
