Very sluggish on flat or hills help please!!

Hi i have a volvo s80 1999 2.5 d i only bought the car last week and its very very slow,service light is amber and ive had a messege come up in the left hand corner of dash clock stating that "engine service required fix" was wondering if this had anything to do with it please help its driving me up the wall

Maybe as an aid to get help, try to see if there are any error codes (DTC's)? And post them here....
