Water Pump Woes

Post by vantassell »

So I ordered a new water pump and timing belt from IPD. I got everything taken out ok and then found that the gasket for the WP was ripped. I called IPD and they said they'd send out a new one. I just got the envelope today and they forgot to put the gasket in.... :(

I called around and the NAPA has a water pump for my car ('98 V70 GLT w/ turbo). They won't sell just the gasket, i'd have to buy a whole new pump and send mine back to IPD. The pump is Altrom brand, and the IPD one is the Hepu Brand. The guy at NAPA said that the Altrom is OEM.

So my question is, should I wait another 3 days for IPD to try to send me the gasket again? or send the IPD one back and drive down to NAPA so I can finish the job today? I have other cars to drive, it's just frustrating to be stuck halfway with the car all torn apart and not being able to finish after 3 days of waiting for a silly gasket.

any volvo dealers in your area ? they should have the gasket

otherwise aisin is the oem volvo water pump hepu is just fine, if i am not mistaken altrom is a imported car parts distributor otherwise permatex sells a good waterpump gasket maker i used it so the paper gasket on mine would not drop while squeesing the water pump in but i dont know if only the permatex stuff will do fine.

d'oh. I should've thought of the dealers to see if they'd have one. I guess I just really dislike dealers in general so I didn't think of that.

I just checked our volvo dealers part department, and they're only open Mon-Fri. I guess i'll try IPD monday morning to see if they'll overnight it and split the shipping with me or something.

Yeah, I'd be worried about only using the permatex stuff without any paper gasket. I guess I could use it on the ripped gasket and hope it seals, but since I have enough time to wait, I oughta just wait and do it right.

I ended up getting one from the dealer and just having IPD credit me for the gasket. I should've just done that when I saw it was ripped but I didn't think of the Dealer until you said so on here.

Oh well, it's all in there now running great. Just thought I'd report back for some closure :)
