sway bar bushings

Post by geoney »

I need to replace the sway bar bushings for 1999 V70 XC, which are made of rubber about 1 1/2 in wide. I order from two different places, and they are not the right ones. Any ideas? Thank you!

Unfortunately the bushings cannot be replaced. If they are bad you need to replace the entire sway bar.

There are three different versions that have a colored marking that is either red, yellow, or yellow/blue. There is also a notation on the product plate that identifies the bar as either 1, 2, or A. I'm not sure where the colored marking is supposed to be. The product plate identifier should be the 3rd character on the 5th line on the right side of the product plate.

Thanks Lee,
Yeah, unfortunately that’s the case, I have to get the whole thing and Volvo is selling it for around $150…Bad engineering, I’m surprised…

+1

I could have sworn that people have just changed the bushings and not the whole bar.

If you can find bushings that work please do a writeup on the process and post it along with any pictures that you can snap to assist in the procedure. This whole site is about component level repairs that are really cheap as opposed to the dealer prescribed solutions.

I get somewhat timid and stick to the VADIS script when trying to help on the '98s. '99 and on I rarely even comment since I have only seen them on the street and they are entirely different animals - If I do see someone who has not had a question answered I will reboot under a Windows partition and fire up VADIS to at least try to help.

There are so many things easier said than done, this saw bar bushing is one of those. Moreover, OP's car is a 99XC, which means it does not use the popular 20mm bar.
