Prevent possible permanent damages to sensitive electronic parts install in the car like ECM, ABS and so... Disconnect battery cable and then do the welding, I have more than 40 years of experience of reparing electronic stuff and I know welding the car body might send a shock to that sensitive parts (some how) and causing damage, not allways, but better to be more safe by removing battery cable which is very easy.
