My s80 has developed a "rough starting" problem. If the car sits parked for a few hours or overnight. When I start it, it turns over. Begins to run, but "shudder" for 3 - 6 seconds and then runs fine. While I'm out driving if I go into a store and come out. The car will start fine without any problems.
I just had the fuel pump replaced, it had a pin hole leak, I thought that this would fix the problem. It didn't. The car has 104k miles on it. So I'm thinking possible timing belt related.
Any ideas.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
I doubt a timing belt problem. Either the timing belt is there and working or it is snapped and nothing works. However, you are due for a belt change at 105,000 miles.
This would appear to be a cold start problem as you don't have trouble with the engine warm. As you have had the fuel pump replaced recently it is possible that you are having a fuel pressure problem. Do you have a check engine light on?
Bill.

No, I don't have a check engine light on. Other than the "rough start" everything seems normal.
If this is a fuel injected engine, it could be a leaking fuel injector. As the engine sits over time, fuel drips into the cylinder (or two or three). Then when you start it, that excess fuel causes a rich condition for a few seconds before the fuel burns off. You might get some heavier smoke out the exhaust during that time too. I was looking for a thread about this because I was going to ask about my 2000 C70 exhibiting the same symptoms. I think it's an injector leak, but if anyone has a better idea I'm all ears!

I am having the same issue with my 99 s80 non-turbo. Did you ever get this fixed and what was the problem?
Mine cured itself. I must have had a little dirt or something in one injector, that cleared itself. Wish I could be more helpful, Daytrader!

I have a 2000 V70XC and I replaced the fuel pump around 7k miles ago. It ran great until 2 days ago. It has been tough to start, but once it is running it runs great. I have read that it is probably a problem with the fuel system losing pressure. I have also seen people have added an inline check valve. It will still start, but it needs to be cranked 5-7more seconds before it starts. Any help would be appreciated. I havent seen any visible fuel leaks at the car and dont smell gasoline anywhere around the engine.
I also dont have any CEL on.
Thanks!

I,m sure you have found your answer to your problem by now but for other viewers this may be there answer. My 99 S80 2.9 had the very same symptoms and was the brake booster leaking down after a few hours. Upon re starting the vacuum drawn into the engine to arm the booster was feeding the air fuel a very lean condition because the additional air was not being drawn past MAF therefore a bad fuel air mixture for a few seconds. The repair is replace the booster.
Hope this may help someone.
