Hi.
I need to bleed the fuel system on my 2.0 litre diesel. I cannot seem to find any primer pump as i am not familiar with the electronic fuelling system.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
The fuel system bleeds itself during starting and running. However, to reduce the load on the battery and starter you can hand prime the fuel filter by using the pump on top of the filter. Keep pumping until you feel resistance. To get to the pump you may have to remove the fuse box but it is only held on by two bolts and can be moved far enough without disconnecting any wires.

hi Bill
I was looking for the manual pump and my car seems to be a different filter than the bosch or cav that I am familiar with. it also seems to be different to the diagram that you showed. it is a puroflux? filter system and there doesnt seem to be a manual pump to bring the fuel from the tank. I think i did not go through the correct procedure for starting from an empty tank. It started and then stopped and there is no fuel from the filter to the pump and it will not seem to self prime.
many thanks
Doug

My mistake. I looked for the year and thought it was 2001. My wife has always said I was at least nine years behind.
This is the latest info I have. It is for the D4204T.

hi Bill,
The info was very helpful and showed me what I needed to do. In the event I did not have to use a manual pump, It seemed messy anyway. I raised the rear of the car on ramps and filled the tank to the brim(not advisable under normal circumstances)
and used gravity. It was then a simple matter to vent the air through the fuel pipe connection.
I am surprised that a manual pump isnt fitted in line but perhaps the self bleed system is foolproof on most occasions.
Many thanks for your help
Doug
ps I do like the car the only negative is that the fuel consumption is disappointing at 36 mpg on average

Possibly the omission of the manual pump is a ploy to get you into the dealer's clutches if this should happen. I have a very suspicious nature when it comes to things like this.
Thank you for the update.
