Temperature gauge slightly above middle

Post by ykfc »

This looks strange to me. Days ago our Volvo 850 year 95 Se (non-turbo) had bad coolant leak while on the road. I stopped the car immediately, get it towed, pay the mechanics to replace the radiator. Now when the car starts from cold, the temperature gauge rises slowly as usual. However, it no longer stays in the middle as it previously did. The temperature gauge is now at ~14.5 minutes mark rather than the 15 minutes clock mark. In addition, the engine runs slightly rougher. What could I look at now? Any opinion of yours?

Have you ever replaced the water pump in this car before? It might have poor circulation at this point, causing it to run hotter, and it may have boiled over and caused a weak point in the radiator to let go.

Thanks for commnet.

No, never replaced the water pump before.
It may have boiled over and caused a weak point in the radiator to let go.
The radiator is now a new one. Why would it have a week point right the way?

I had reminded myself and my other driver to watch out if the engine shall run hotter than the current point. The mechanics (who helped me to replace the radiator basically ask me to sit doing nothing at this moment. What else you think I need to do?

If they replaced the thermostat they may have put in a 195 where you may have previous had a 185 or 190 degree. These cars came with a few different temp T-stats for turbo, non-turbo etc. but this would not make the car run rough in any way if it was fine before.

The running rough would concern me thogh, and maybe you should go and get a second opinion, but don't worry about the gauge, Mine has been there for 2 years, though in the summer I wish it was slightly lower, but come winter the extra 10 degrees is great.
