my 91 vovlo 740 shut off going down the road has gas an plenty of juice from battery no previous problem but will not restart

Many things can cause a car to quit while running and will not restart. To begin we have to find out if it wasn't getting fuel or spark, or maybe both.

if it starts right up after cooling down for an hour or two, you may have an air mass meter problem. During the times that it won't start, unplug the air massmeter. If it start right up again then that is where your problem is!
