Different size battery in S70

Post by rainman14624 »

My daughter called tonight and car wouldn't start. Battery was so dead it wouldn't even unlock the doors. Anyway, I had a brand new Everstart size 24FS battery in my shop. I know the S70 is supposed to get a size 47 or 48 battery. I installed the 24FS, which is slightly taller and doesn't have the flanges on the bottom to lock it into the tray. I used an industrial strength zip tie to hold it in place and put the locking thingamajig in the glove compartment for later use. Hood closes fine. Is there any drawback to leaving the 24FS in there as long as it doesn't slide around?

As long as it is secured well you will be fine. Battery spec is greater than the original so no problems with the alternator. Vibration breaks down the plates but you secured it well.

Only concern is the positive tower being exposed (sits higher in the 24fs). If you have a cover over it ,or if it sits low enough that nothing will hit it then you are all set.

I'll try to take the positive post cover off the old battery and fashion one for the 24FS. Thanks JDS60R!
