2001 S60 - Driver side window will not go down

Post by ldjohn »

Driver side window will not go down. It used to intermittently if I tried several times. Once the window started to go up it did it smoothly and quietly. Motor seems fine. Sometimes it would go down and then not back up. A few times if I turned the car/key off and then back on it would go up fine. It stopped working completely about 5 mos. ago. A mechanic once told me (without looking at it) that he thought he motor and switch were fine but that there was some type of control module that was failing. I am not sure where that is on the car or how much it costs. Any advice on this and if you think the mechanic's diagnosis is correct? Any cheap places to get parts for this car?

Thanks

take the door panel off and take a look at the rolling down/up while you operate the window.

it could be something simple, but you won't know until you look.

I bet it is the switch, Use a small screwdriver to pry the switch out, and open the switch, then push the switch to the front and to the back - if the window goes down, you know it's the switch! To fix this, you might need a new one, or simply spray with contact cleaner and WD40, and let it dry - this solved my problem.

Try contact cleaner. But NEVER, NEVER use WD40 on Electrical components.

Hi Dear friend

I had the exact same problem on my 2002 S60. This problem lasted for two years and was making me crazy.

I tried several things including the replacement of the window control module in the driver door.
Nothing seemed to work until I brought the car to an independent Volvo mechanic.
What he did looks very simple:
He told me he had to remove the driver door panel in order to replace and fix some wire 'contacts' somewhere between the window module located inside the driver door panel and the front part of the car.
When you open the driver door from the inside you should see a black rubber in the corner near the hinges.
There are some wires inside and one of these wires must be cut or the contact between wires is defective.
There are no expensive parts to buy. It only takes time.
Now my window works perfectly!
Hope this helps.
If you want clearer or more detailed explanations, call my mechanic Nicholas in Montreal at (514) 332-6511

+1 for the contacts.

I had a similar problem on a different car. The module plugged together tightly but the contact pins inside the module where lose. A simple pinch on the female pins tighten everything up and fixed my problem.

The system needs to be reset by your VOLVO dealer, not an independent mechanic
