Which power steering fluid?

Post by kelvin6 »

My power steering fluid is low. Consulted the user manual, and doesn't specify what type of ATF fluid. Consulted my Chilton's Manual and it says Type F, but found at the back to fill it with DexronIII/ Mercon. Found a post on this site that said you can put both!

Now just to clarify, which should I use? Type F ATF or Dexron III/Mercon ATF?

After this I'll put a sticker on the cap to set things straight.

I do have a feeling that mechanics who don't know volvos probably end up putting the usual tranny fluid, Dexron III/Mercon.

I would use Dexron III/Mercon although you likely won't see a difference between the two in your power steering.
