Climate control unit backlight bulb replacement
Climate control unit backlight bulb replacement
I have obtained replacement bulbs for the climate control unit and am comfortable with its removal, disassembly and reassembly, but wanted to ask first if anyone knows whether or not there is more to the process from a computer/software standpoint than what meets the eye. I'd hate for the system to not come back on or to have to pay the dealer for related software resets. Has anyone done this?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Just replacing the bulbs does not need software downloads.
If you need the instructions for removing the unit they have been posted on the forum and a search will find them.

Be careful! Be sure to disconnect the battery first, then after everything is back in place, then turn your key to the number II position and then reconnect the battery.
I need to do this also, but am having trouble finding the instructions for removing the CCU for my 2000 S80 2.9 (173,000 miles). Also, I cannot find a message that gives the ids for the bulbs. I've see this for other models (V70), but mine doesn't have a pen holder that hides the screws. The shifter cover goes right up to the base of the CCU. I'd sure appreciate it if you wouldn't mind posting a direct link to the removal instructions and a part number or other id for the bulbs. Thanks!

The instructions posted cover both the V70 and the S80, the only difference being the pen holder.
I can only give you the part number for the bulb - 9472403 which has been superseded by 30739357. Looking at the diagram on VADIS I would say the bulb and holder come as a complete unit. The price would bear that out - $11.84, but much cheaper at our ex-sponsor MyVolvoPartsOnline.com.
